PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the preschool director, the preschool teacher strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for classroom leadership; works as a member of the preschool team; develops an appropriate learning and faith-filled, social environment; evaluates the needs of each student; evaluates and reports student progress; establishes positive school relationships; communicates with parents; participates in professional development; performs other job related tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the director or principal.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. This position does not require that the employee be a Catholic. It is expected however that all employees will respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Reasonable accommodation of the religious practices of employees not of the Roman Catholic faith will similarly be provided.

 

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The lead preschool teacher is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the full day preschool classroom. This responsibility includes awareness of licensing requirements, developmentally appropriate practices and MNSAA accreditation standards.

  1. Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education and uphold the Catholic philosophy of education
  2. Promotes Gospel values and Catholic moral teachings
  3. Upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic church
  4. Exemplifies Catholic living in and out of the classroom
  5. Assumes responsibility for the leadership of the assigned classroom
  6. Provide supervision and guidance to function as a teacher and role model for other classroom staff
  7. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective teaching techniques, developmentally appropriate practices and child development
  8. Plans and implements daily instruction and learning activities appropriate to the students’ needs
  9. Responsible for implementation of Creative Curriculum and Gold Assessment System. 
  10. Responsible for organizing and managing the classroom environment to promote the development of  physical, cognitive, emotional, creative and social skills of enrolled children.
  11. Responsible for communication with families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DHS Teacher qualified, Teaching License preferred
  • Knowledge and support of Ascension Academy Mission and Philosophy
  • Exhibit competence in instructional methods and knowledge of subject matter being taught
  • Demonstrate evidence of good classroom management techniques
  • Develop and maintain a positive atmosphere with colleagues
  • Continue development in professional growth opportunities by attending workshops, in-services, and faculty meetings
  • Ability to demonstrate or willingness to learn technology skills as the position demands
  • Communicates effectively and in a timely fashion with school, students, staff, and parents
  • All employees are subject to a probationary or training period for their first 3 years of employment
